The MÜHLE Shaving Culture: A Tradition of Sustainable Shaving In 2021, MÜHLE launched the first safety razor designed with the needs of all users in mind, regardless of gender. This journey began in 1945, when Otto Johannes Müller founded the business after returning from the war, making the first shaving brushes and designing the MÜHLE signet.
Over the decades, the company has evolved. In 1965, Hans-Jürgen Müller took over the growing business, which had expanded to 40 employees and was exporting products to 36 countries. However, in 1972, under pressure from the German Democratic Republic, Hans-Jürgen Müller was forced to sell the company, and MÜHLE became a state-owned enterprise. In 1987, the business was rebranded, manufacturing brushes only for the state, and Hans-Jürgen Müller became a self-employed brush maker.
The 1990s marked a new beginning. As a united Europe emerged, Hans-Jürgen Müller regained the family business, trading as Hans-Jürgen Müller KG, and the MÜHLE signet remained. The company struggled to survive after reunification, but gradually won new customers and rehired former employees. By 2006, the offering had expanded to a full range of wet shaving goods, and the MÜHLE brand came to the fore.
Today, MÜHLE razors, brushes, and accessories are used by shaving enthusiasts worldwide. Designed and manufactured in Germany, the MÜHLE Shaving Culture is committed to maintaining the high standards, dedication, and pioneering developments of the past, as it continues to educate the ritual of the best wet shave.
For a luxurious wet shave, MÜHLE recommends whipping up a lather with a shaving brush. This can be a badger hair shaving brush or a vegan-friendly synthetic fiber shaving brush from the VIVO series, which features a rethought classic form with a bulbous curvature.
When using a MÜHLE shaving brush, start by moistening the brush fibers with warm water and working shaving cream (or soap) into a shaving lather. Massage the lather into the cheeks, chin, and neck using circular motions. When finished shaving, rinse all lather from the brush with warm water and hang it in a downward direction on a MÜHLE shaving stand to allow it to dry.
MÜHLE offers a range of shaving stands, including single razor stands, single shaving brush stands, and shaving set stands with or without a shaving bowl. These help maintain the longevity of your razor and shaving brush.
As a member of the Environmental Alliance of Saxony, MÜHLE is committed to sustainability and cooperates with suppliers who uphold the same high standards. The company's products come completely without plastic, reflecting its affinity with nature and desire for the very highest quality.
